Srinagar, Dec 25 (JKNS): Police have taken swift action after a disturbing video surfaced on social media showing an individual allegedly assaulting an elderly man, reportedly his father, triggering widespread outrage across the Valley.
As per news agency JKNS, the video depicting the harassment of the elderly person came to the notice of police authorities soon after it went viral on social media platforms, drawing strong condemnation from the public.
A police official told JKNS that immediate cognizance of the incident was taken. “A case has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg under relevant sections of law, the accused individual has been detained, and a detailed investigation is underway,” the official said.
Police said efforts are on to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to establish all facts related to the case.
Meanwhile, police reiterated that acts of violence, particularly against senior citizens, will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law.
The public has also been urged to report such incidents promptly to authorities instead of circulating sensitive and distressing content on social media. (JKNS)
