Kashmir Reports 15 Fire Incidents in 48 Hours

Damage to residential structures, cowsheds, army barracks, forest cover, dry grass and trees reported in multiple incidents, F&ES urged general public to remain extremely cautious, especially during winter season

Srinagar, Dec 24 (JKNS): At least 15 fire-related incidents were reported across the Kashmir Valley during the last 48 hours, with the Fire and Emergency Services responding swiftly to all calls, officials said.

An official from Fire and Emergency Services told news agency JKNS that eight fire incidents were recorded between December 23 and December 24, while seven incidents were reported during the preceding 24-hour period, taking the total to 15.

He said that due to timely and coordinated firefighting operations, all the incidents were brought under control, thereby preventing any loss of human life and restricting damage to property.

Among the incidents reported in the last 24 hours were fire outbreaks affecting residential houses, cowsheds, forest areas, dry grass, trees, and Army infrastructure at various locations including Sopore, Kupwara, Bandipora, Pulwama, and Budgam. Three Army barracks at Zangil in Kupwara were also damaged, officials said.

Similarly, during the previous 24-hour period, fire incidents were reported from Srinagar, Bandipora, Kulgam, Ganderbal, and Kupwara districts, involving residential houses, garbage compounds, trees, and Army residential structures.

In a statement, Fire and Emergency Services personnel acted with professionalism and bravery, ensuring that the fires did not spread further despite challenging winter conditions.

Official added that under the leadership of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services Alok Kumar, firefighting operations across the Valley were conducted efficiently.

Meanwhile, the Fire and Emergency Services has appealed to the public to remain cautious during winter, particularly while using electrical heating devices, and advised against overloading circuits to avoid fire hazards. Citizens have been urged to immediately report any fire incident to the nearest fire station or control room. (JKNS)
