Jammu, Dec 21 (JKNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Sunday congratulated the Divisional Railway Manager, Jammu, after the first-ever Food Corporation of India (FCI) foodgrain freight train successfully reached Kashmir Valley, marking a historic milestone in the region’s logistics and supply chain network.

In a post on X, the Office of the J&K Chief Minister, as per news agency JKNS, said that for the first time a foodgrain freight train carrying rice arrived in Kashmir, with the inaugural rake placed at the Anantnag goods shed. The rake comprised 21 wagons transporting about 1,384 tonnes of rice meant for buffer stock and public distribution.

The Chief Minister said the development would ensure faster transit of essential commodities, significantly reduce pressure on National Highway-44, and strengthen the foodgrain supply chain across the Valley, especially during adverse weather conditions.

He termed the arrival of the freight train as a major step towards improving logistical efficiency and ensuring uninterrupted availability of essential food items in Jammu and Kashmir. (JKNS)
