Kupwara, Dec 20 (JKNS): In a significant initiative aimed at strengthening early childhood education and reinforcing grassroots welfare institutions, the State Bank of India (SBI) Karnah Branch has extended infrastructure and educational support worth ₹1 lakh to the Anganwadi Centre at Nachiyan under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

The initiative has been widely welcomed as an important step toward improving educational facilities for children in one of the remote and border areas of the Karnah subdivision.

The support includes the provision of 24 children’s chairs, two tables, activity-based educational learning materials, floor mats for two rooms, and curtains to improve the overall classroom environment. These facilities are expected to enhance comfort, hygiene, and engagement at the Anganwadi Centre, thereby creating a more conducive, safe, and child-friendly atmosphere for learning and recreational activities during the crucial early years of childhood development.

The equipment was formally handed over to the Anganwadi Centre staff by SBI Karnah Branch Manager Nasir Nabi in the presence of Field Officer Nazir Ahmad. On the occasion, the bank officials reiterated SBI’s commitment to social responsibility, inclusive growth, and equitable development, with a particular focus on rural and border regions that often face infrastructural challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Branch Manager Nasir Nabi stated that SBI, through its CSR initiatives, remains dedicated to strengthening education and overall well-being at the foundational level. He emphasized that the bank continuously strives to reach underserved communities across Karnah and contribute meaningfully to long-term nation-building by supporting essential public welfare institutions.

The initiative received an overwhelmingly positive response from Anganwadi workers, teachers, parents, and local residents, who expressed gratitude to the bank for addressing a long-pending need for basic infrastructure. They noted that the newly provided furniture and learning materials have already made the centre more functional, organized, and appealing for young children. An Anganwadi worker shared that children are now attending the centre with greater enthusiasm, displaying increased interest and participation in daily activities.

Parents and community members also lauded the initiative as a strong example of constructive corporate participation in public welfare programmes. They observed that such interventions not only enhance educational outcomes at the grassroots level but also strengthen trust and cooperation between financial institutions and local communities. Many residents highlighted that timely investments in Anganwadi centres play a vital role in shaping children’s futures, especially in remote areas where access to quality infrastructure remains limited.

Through this CSR initiative, the State Bank of India has once again reaffirmed its role as a socially responsible public sector institution committed to promoting education, community welfare, and inclusive growth. Notably, SBI Karnah Branch had earlier extended similar support to NT-PHC Gabra by donating essential equipment worth ₹2 lakh, including a generator and office furniture, to strengthen healthcare services in another underserved area of the subdivision.

Together, these initiatives reflect SBI’s sustained commitment to empowering border communities and contributing to the region’s overall social and developmental progress. (JKNS)
