Freezing Nights Persist Across J&K; Awanyipora Coldest at – 3.8°C, Zojila Records Bone-Chilling -17°C

Srinagar, Dec 18 (JKNS): Severe cold conditions continued to grip Jammu and Kashmir, with most parts of the Kashmir Valley witnessing sub-zero minimum temperatures, while Zojila Pass emerged as the coldest location, plunging to a harsh minus 17 degrees Celsius.

According to temperature data compiled by Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, Awantipora in south Kashmir recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the Valley at minus 3.8°C, followed by Pulwama at minus 3.2°C. Pampore and Baramulla each registered minus 1.8°C, while Shopian settled at minus 1.5°C. Srinagar city recorded a low of 0.2°C, with the Srinagar Airport touching the freezing point. Kupwara recorded minus 1.0°C, Anantnag minus 0.3°C, Budgam and Bandipora minus 0.8°C each, and Ganderbal minus 0.1°C.

Tourist destinations Pahalgam and Gulmarg recorded minimums of 0.4°C and 1.6°C respectively, while Sonamarg stood at 2.1°C. Kulgam recorded 2.0°C, Kokernag 1.8°C, and Qazigund 0.8°C. Zethan Rafiabad weather station remained non-functional.

In the Jammu region, night temperatures were comparatively milder. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 11.0°C, while Jammu Airport settled at 11.5°C. Katra registered 12.1°C, Banihal 5.7°C, Batote 9.5°C, Bhaderwah 5.0°C, Kathua 8.8°C, Udhampur 6.1°C, Ramban 8.3°C, Samba 7.1°C, Rajouri 3.0°C, Kishtwar 8.6°C, Reasi 9.7°C and Doda 8.8°C.

In Ladakh, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 3.4°C, while temperature data for Kargil and Nubra Valley was not available. (JKNS)
