Sub-Zero Night Temperatures Grip Kashmir, Pampore, Pulwama Coldest at -4°C

Weatherman predicts dry weather till Dec 20, wet spell from Dec 20 evening

Srinagar, Dec 16 (JKNS): After days of slight relief from night temperatures, cold conditions once again gripped Jammu and Kashmir on Monday night, as several places in the Kashmir Valley recorded sub-zero minimum temperatures, while high-altitude areas experienced severe cold.

Data compiled by independent weather channel Kashmir Weather, as per news agency JKNS, showed that in the Kashmir region, Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.8°C, while Qazigund settled at minus 2.2°C and Pahalgam at minus 2.6°C. Kupwara also recorded minus 1.8°C, Kokernag minus 0.6°C and Gulmarg remained slightly above freezing at 0.5°C.

Pampore and Pulwama were among the coldest spots, both recording minus 4.0°C, while Shopian registered minus 3.8°C.

Anantnag recorded minus 3.3°C, Baramulla minus 2.9°C, Budgam minus 2.8°C, Bandipora minus 2.2°C and Awantipora minus 2.6°C. Srinagar Airport recorded a minimum of minus 2.0°C. Zojila Pass experienced extreme cold at minus 17.0°C, while the Zethan Rafiabad station remained non-functional.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were comparatively higher. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 8.4°C, while Jammu Airport settled at 6.9°C. Banihal recorded 1.7°C, Batote 7.1°C, Katra 10.4°C, Bhaderwah 2.9°C, Kathua 8.8°C, Udhampur 4.0°C and Ramban 4.6°C. Samba recorded 3.5°C, Rajouri 1.0°C, Kishtwar 8.3°C, Reasi 6.5°C and Doda 6.2°C.

In Ladakh, Leh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 4.8°C, while Kargil settled at minus 4.2°C. Drass remained among the coldest places at minus 8.2°C. Nyoma recorded minus 14.3°C, Padum minus 9.1°C, Stakna minus 6.4°C, Tangste minus 7.4°C and Upshi minus 6.9°C. Nubra Valley recorded minus 1.9°C, Khaltse minus 1.7°C and Chuchot minus 5.2°C, while Garkone recorded a relatively milder 0.9°C.

Meanwhile, the weatherman has forecast dry weather across Jammu and Kashmir till December 20. However, there is a possibility of a moderate-intensity western disturbance affecting the region from the late evening of December 20. The exact intensity and impact of the system are expected to become clearer in the coming days, officials said. (JKNS)
