Srinagar Police Nabs ATM Fraudster in Bemina; 12 Stolen Cards Seized

Srinagar, Dec 3 (JKNS): Srinagar Police has arrested a fraudster in Bemina area and recovered multiple ATM cards from his possession, along with a mobile phone used in the commission of the crime.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Taking cognizance of a written complaint from Nazir Ahmed War, S/o Asadullah War, R/o Palpora Pattan, the In-charge of the Centralized ATM Department of J&K Bank, Police Station Bemina registered case FIR No. 116/2025 under sections 303(2), 324(4), and 62 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita ( BNS ).

Accordingly, Srinagar Police constituted a special trap team in collaboration with the ATM Department of J&K Bank.

The team laid a trap at the JVC ATM, which had been repeatedly targeted and from where several complaints of ATM app/pad damage had been reported.

The accused person, identified as Irfan Ahmad Mir, S/o Abdul Lateif Mir, R/o Sanzipora Mawar, Handwara, was apprehended while attempting to tamper with the ATM.

During his search, 12 ATM cards of various banks and one iPhone were recovered. The accused person has been arrested, it reads.

The investigation is currently in progress, focusing on the verification of the recovered ATM cards and determining whether additional arrests or recoveries are expected in connection with the case, it reads.

Srinagar Police urge the general public to remain cautious and avoid falling prey to ATM fraudsters.
Citizens are advised to report any suspicious activity or malfunctioning of ATM machines immediately to the nearest police station or concerned authorities. (JKNS)
