Kashmir Shivers: Srinagar at -4.4°C, Shopian Freezes at Lowest at -5.9°C

Srinagar, Dec 3 (JKNS): The Kashmir Valley remained in the grip of a severe cold wave on Tuesday night as minimum temperatures continued to dip below the freezing point across most parts of the region, weather officials said.

According to data compiled by Kashmir Weather, as per news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -4.4°C, while several other stations including Pampore (-5.0°C), Anantnag (-5.3°C), Baramulla (-5.3°C), Pulwama (-5.5°C) and Shopian (-5.9°C) figured among the coldest locations in the Valley.

Pahalgam shivered at -4.6°C, Kupwara settled at -4.1°C, Gulmarg recorded -2.6°C, Kokernag -1.2°C, and Ganderbal -3.0°C. In the higher reaches, Sonamarg touched -3.6°C and Zethan Rafiabad dipped to -4.9°C.

In the Jammu region, the mercury also saw a notable fall, with Jammu city recording 8.1°C. Banihal dropped to -0.7°C, Bhaderwah to -0.2°C, Rajouri to 1.4°C and Samba to 2.5°C. Katra recorded 7.6°C, while Udhampur and Ramban settled at 4.0°C and 4.1°C respectively.

Ladakh witnessed a sharper decline, with Leh freezing at -7.0°C, followed by Kargil at -5.6°C and Nubra Valley at -4.7°C.

Officials said the prevailing dry weather and clear skies are contributing to the persistent drop in night temperatures. A brief improvement is expected on December 4 and 5, with cold wave conditions likely to intensify again from December 6. (JKNS)
