Pulwama Police Launch Crackdown on Tobacco Sales Near Schools

Pulwama, Dec 2 (JKNS): In a bid to curb the sale of tobacco products near educational institutions, Pulwama Police, in coordination with the concerned Magistrate authorities, on Tuesday launched a special enforcement drive across the district.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS reads, Pulwama police in coordination with the concerned Magistrate authorities, carried out a focused drive across the district to curb the sale of tobacco products around educational institutions.

Teams inspected several shops located near schools and colleges, checking for violations of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and the mandatory 100-meter no-tobacco zone. Tobacco items found being sold in restricted areas were seized, and fines were imposed on the spot by the concerned Executive Magistrate.

Shopkeepers were warned against selling tobacco to minors or operating within prohibited limits around educational institutions. They were instructed to ensure strict compliance in the future, statement reads. (JKNS)
