Cloudy Skies Bring Marginal Rise in Kashmir Night Temperatures; Light Snowfall Hits Zojila

Srinagar, Dec 1 (JKNS): A spell of cloud cover led to a marginal rise in night temperatures across the Kashmir Valley, even as several places continued to record sub-zero conditions overnight, weather observers said on Monday.

According to data compiled by independent weather service Kashmir Weather as per news agency JKNS, a fresh light snowfall was reported during the early hours at the Minimarg–Zojila stretch, marking another cold start to the day in the higher reaches.

In the Valley, Srinagar registered a minimum of –1.9°C, while Qazigund recorded –1.0°C and Pahalgam –0.4°C. Kupwara dropped to –3.2°C, Pampore settled at –3.2°C, and Baramulla saw a sharper dip to –4.7°C. Srinagar Airport recorded –3.6°C, Budgam –2.5°C, and Ganderbal –1.2°C, while the iconic Zojila Pass froze at –16.0°C. Zethan Rafiabad recorded –4.0°C.

In the Jammu region, mild chill persisted with Jammu noting 9.6°C, Banihal 3.5°C, Katra 9.4°C, Bhaderwah 3.7°C, and Rajouri 2.8°C. Udhampur settled at 5.8°C, Ramban at 6.6°C, and Kathua at 7.4°C.

Meanwhile, Ladakh remained under severe cold wave conditions. Leh recorded –4.6°C, Kargil –3.8°C, and Nubra Valley –3.9°C, continuing its deep freeze trend.

Weather experts say temperatures are likely to remain low in the coming days, with predominantly dry conditions expected. However, light snowfall in higher reaches may occur at isolated locations. (JKNS)
