SDA Denies Demolition Claims, Begins Verification of Structural Violations

Srinagar, Nov 29 (JKNS): The Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) on Saturday dismissed circulating rumours about the demolition of 200 allotted shops, stating that no such drive is underway. The authority said it has only initiated a process of collecting data regarding alleged structural violations by shopkeepers and allottees.

Officials told JKNS that many shopkeepers have raised additional structures and extensions beyond the permissible limits on the commercial spaces allotted to them on rent.

They said multiple complaints have been received regarding these unauthorized constructions. “The rumours about demolishing 200 shops are completely baseless. No demolition drive has been planned,” an official said.

The officials confirmed that notices have been issued to several shopkeepers, asking them to explain their position regarding the extensions made beyond the original allotment.

“These are SDA-owned properties, so there is no question of demolition. The current exercise is limited to verification and compilation of complete data,” the official added.

The SDA said further action, as per law, will be taken only after examining the responses to the notices. —(JKNS)
