Kashmir Freezes as Mercury Dips; Srinagar Shivers at -2.8°C, Shopian Coldest at -4.7°C

Srinagar, Nov 23 (JKNS): The Kashmir Valley witnessed a sharp plunge in minimum temperatures last night, with most stations recording sub-zero conditions as cold tightened its grip across the region.

As per data available with news agency JKNS, Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -2.8°C, marking one of the coldest nights of the season.

In south Kashmir, severe frost was reported, with Pahalgam and Konibal both settling at -3.5°C. Shopian remained the coldest place at -4.7°C, followed by Pulwama at -4.4°C and Bandipora at -3.2°C.

Other key stations also reeled under intense cold, with Qazigund at -2.3°C, Kupwara at -2.6°C, Kokernag at 0.8°C, and Gulmarg at 0.0°C.

In central Kashmir, Baramulla recorded -4.5°C, Ganderbal -1.1°C, and Sonamarg -3.2°C, indicating widespread freezing temperatures across the region.

Meanwhile, the Jammu division witnessed comparatively milder conditions. Jammu city settled at 10.1°C, while higher-altitude areas such as Kishtwar (4.2°C), Batote (4.5°C), Bhaderwah (0.5°C), and Banihal (-0.5°C) recorded colder nights. Other stations, including Katra at 9.8°C and Kathua at 9.2°C, reported moderate temperatures.

Officials said the ongoing dry spell, accompanied by clear skies, is likely to keep the night temperatures below freezing across Kashmir in the coming days. (JKNS)
