Srinagar, Nov 17 (JKNS): The much-delayed Sanat Nagar flyover considered the final key link on the Srinagar Bypass corridor is set to be opened for public transport next week, Chief Engineer R&B Central Kashmir, Sushil Kumar, said on Monday.

Speaking to media persons on his visit to the site, Kumar as per news agency JKNS said that the project is now in its concluding phase, with only the mandatory load testing left.

“The structure is almost complete. Load testing generally takes around four days, and once that is finished, we expect to open the flyover within a week,” he said.

He noted that the project had faced repeated setbacks due to “unavoidable hindrances,” but emphasized that all such issues have now been addressed.

“Those challenges have been cleared. Final finishing works are underway, and the bridge will soon be fit for traffic movement,” Kumar added.

Installation of lighting poles and minor remaining works are also progressing and are expected to be completed shortly before the flyover becomes fully operational.

As reported earlier a senior government official on Sunday told JKNS that the work on said flyover will be conpleted on Monday, however he said that inauguration may take some days as Deputy Chief Minister is in Delhi.

The Sanat Nagar flyover part of the National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) broader plan to ease congestion at key Srinagar junctions was initially expected to be completed in June 2024. However, multiple missed deadlines have caused inconvenience to thousands of commuters.

In 2020, the NHAI had proposed three short-distance flyovers at Bemina, Sanat Nagar, and Nowgam to decongest traffic on the Srinagar expressway bypass. (JKNS)
