Youth Held with Dummy Weapons in Kokernag”; Police say swift operation averted panic in the area

Anantnag, Nov 16 (JKNS): Anantnag Police on Sunday detained three youths in Kokernag after they were found roaming with toy-like weapons, allegedly creating fear among locals.

Police spokesperson in a statement to news agency JKNS that the group had even entered the house of Abdul Majeed Ahanger, son of Abdul Rehman Ahanger, a resident of Hiller, where they allegedly issued threats, triggering panic in the locality.

Acting on specific information, Police Station Kokernag registered FIR No. 122/2025 under relevant sections of law and launched a swift operation. A joint team of Police Kokernag and SOG Kokernag, supervised by SDPO Kokernag, immediately reached the spot.

During the operation, three persons were arrested and identified as Yasir Ahmad Kasana, son of Mohammad Mirza, resident of Anderwani Sagam Kokernag; Ajaz Ahmad Famda, son of Mohammad Rafiq, resident of Thamankote Verinag Kapran; and Shahid Ahmad Teli, son of Javed Ahmad Teli, resident of Hiller Arhama Kokernag.

Police recovered one dummy AK-47 rifle, one dummy pistol, and a green pouch from their possession, officials added.

The prompt action by Anantnag Police prevented any further disturbance and helped restore confidence among locals, they said.

The public has been urged to stay vigilant and promptly report suspicious activity to the nearest police establishment. (JKNS)
