Srinagar, Nov 9 (JKNS): The School Education Department (SED) has directed all schools in Jammu and Kashmir to prioritise bridging learning gaps identified in the previous academic year.
The advisory also emphasises the role of the Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) in ensuring daily online attendance for students and teachers across the UT.
In an advisory as per news agency JKNS, teachers have been directed to identify individual learning gaps among students and plan remedial interventions in coordination with fellow staff members.
The department has recommended an integrated teaching approach, aligning similar lessons and learning outcomes from both the current and preceding academic years.
The SED guidelines stress the need to link classroom teaching particularly in science with real-life situations to strengthen understanding and bridge academic gaps. Teachers have been encouraged to adopt activity-based learning methods such as storytelling, debates, quizzes, group assignments, and classroom discussions to make the learning environment more engaging and interactive.
SED calls for extensive use of educational resources supplied under Samagra Shiksha and SCERT, including DIKSHA content, NISHTHA modules, worksheets, TLMs, and other offline/online materials. Grammar learning, it states, should be based on real conversations to improve practical language skills.
To build strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities, teachers have been advised to merge lessons with similar learning outcomes and use available classroom teaching aids such as charts, maps, and globes to cover missed or related topics. In schools where required, two or more classes may be combined to achieve the targeted learning outcomes.
The department has further suggested the use of educational videos especially for topics like animals, festivals, and other visually based subjects to help students grasp concepts more easily. Mathematics concepts such as numbers, measurement, and geometry should be taught through daily life examples to simplify understanding. Teachers have been instructed to maintain updated learning assessment records for all students. (JKNS)
