Srinagar, Oct 30 (JKNS): In a major infrastructure initiative aimed at improving passenger management during peak travel seasons, the Union Railway Minister has approved the development of Passenger Holding Areas at 76 major railway stations across the country.

As per news agency JKNS, the decision follows the successful implementation of a holding area at New Delhi Railway Station, which efficiently managed the massive rush of passengers during the Diwali and Chhath festivals. The pilot project was completed within just four months and proved instrumental in ensuring smoother crowd movement and better passenger convenience.

The upcoming holding areas will follow a modular design, tailored to suit local station conditions and regional passenger requirements. The Railway Minister has instructed that all such facilities be completed well before the 2026 festival season to ensure seamless travel experiences across zones.

The 76 stations identified for the initiative span across all major railway zones, including Central, Northern, Western, Eastern, South Central, and North Western Railways. Some key stations include Mumbai CSMT, Howrah, New Delhi, Varanasi, Chennai Central, Bengaluru, Jaipur, and Bhopal.

Officials said the move is part of the broader strategy to modernize station infrastructure and enhance crowd management efficiency during high-demand periods. (JKNS
