PDP Chief Rallies Support for Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, Calls Him a ‘People’s Leader’

By Ubaid Mehdi

Budgam, Oct 26 (JKNS): Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday launched a sharp attack on the National Conference (NC), accusing its leadership of “neglect and betrayal” towards the people of Budgam.

Addressing a spirited workers’ meeting in the district, as per news agency JKNS, Mehbooba made a strong appeal to voters to support Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, the PDP candidate for the upcoming Assembly by-election, describing him as a “sincere and people’s leader.”

“The NC leadership has used Budgam as a political ladder while ignoring the real needs of its people. The PDP stands for responsible and people-centric leadership that will ensure accountability and genuine public service,” Mehbooba said.

She accused former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of turning his back on the constituency after winning it with “tall promises” that were never fulfilled.
“During Omar Abdullah’s tenure, thousands of our youth were imprisoned and families pushed into despair. The NC government not only failed to protect the common man but also alienated an entire generation,” she alleged.

Mehbooba said Budgam, with its rich political and historical legacy, has long been deprived of meaningful development. “Budgam deserves a leader who belongs to the soil and stands with the people in their difficult times,” she remarked.

Calling Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi a “grounded and sincere representative,” the PDP chief said, “He understands the pain and aspirations of this region. The time has come to elect leaders who listen to the people — not those who disappear after elections.”

Reaffirming her party’s commitment to protecting the dignity, identity, and democratic rights of Jammu and Kashmir’s people, Mehbooba urged voters to see the by-election as “an opportunity to send a message of change and reclaim the people’s voice in governance.”

“Our struggle is not for power but for the people. Together, we can restore faith in politics that serves, not exploits,” Mehbooba said, concluding her address to thunderous applause. (JKNS)
