Srinagar, Oct 25 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday said the National Conference (NC) gave its best effort to win all four Rajya Sabha seats from Jammu and Kashmir, but the final 3-1 result reflected both achievement and a sense of letdown during the concluding phase of voting.

Speaking to reporters, CM Omar, as per news agency JKNS, said, “There should be no doubt about the 3-1 outcome. We worked tirelessly for a 4-0 win, but as I mentioned yesterday, in the final stage we faced setbacks from certain quarters.”

He further said it was now “largely clear who stood with the party and who did not,” though he refrained from naming anyone. “It’s unfortunate, but I remain grateful to everyone who supported us till the very end. Those who changed their stance at the last moment, that is indeed disappointing,” Omar remarked.

The Chief Minister, however, expressed satisfaction that all NC votes remained intact, stating, “I take solace in knowing that not a single NC vote was cross-voted or wasted.”

His comments came a day after the Rajya Sabha results were declared, in which the National Conference won three out of four seats, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured one after a closely fought contest. (JKNS)
