ANANTNAG: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today said that the government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has completed one year in office and remains committed to realizing the dreams and aspirations of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Deputy Chief Minister made these remarks during his extensive tour of Anantnag and Kulgam districts, where he laid foundation stones for various developmental projects amounting to nearly Rs. 9 crores.
During the tour, the Deputy CM was accompanied by legislators Altaf Ahmad Wani, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Reyaz Ahmad Khan, and Peerzada Feroze Ahmad.
In Anantnag, the Deputy CM laid the foundation stone for the Rs. 3.16 crore Labour Sarai Project at Wanpoh.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy CM said the facility will help boost economic activity, generate employment opportunities, and serve as a one-stop centre for workers. “This marks another step towards strengthening welfare infrastructure and improving service delivery for the working class in district Anantnag,” he said.
The Deputy CM said that the construction of the Labour Sarai was a long-pending demand of local residents, fulfilled today by the present government. He informed that the project would be completed by June next year. He directed the concerned PWD department to ensure timely execution of the project.
Reiterating the government’s commitment, he said, “We do not make false promises. We belong to the school of thought of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, and we firmly stand by truth and commitment.”
He added that while many promises are still being realized, the government is making all-out efforts to deliver on its commitments.
The Deputy Chief Minister urged people to have faith in the government, assuring that every decision taken will be in the best interest of the public.
On the occasion, the Deputy CM also released more than Rs. 30 lakh among 1,025 registered workers of the Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.
The financial assistance was credited directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts under Meritorious Scholarship, Higher Education Assistance, and Lower Education Assistance schemes.
Later, the Deputy CM visited Kulgam district and laid the foundation stone for Rs. 5.69 crore Khrewan–Palpora Check Road construction project in Devsar Constituency. He said the road would benefit nearly 20 villages, enhancing road connectivity and easing transportation for local residents.
Addressing public gatherings, the Deputy CM reiterated that the Omar Abdullah-led government will fulfil all its promises made to the people and continue working for equitable development across J&K.
The Deputy CM also visited KP Colony Vessu, where he laid the foundation stone for Bhumi Pujan at Ganesh Mandir Vessu. Earlier, he conducted an on-spot assessment of the ongoing Transit Accommodation Blocks for Kashmiri Pandits at the colony.
During the inspection, the Deputy CM directed officials to expedite the pace of work on all blocks to ensure their early completion and handing over to deserving families.
Addressing a gathering of Kashmiri Pandits, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to their dignified relief and rehabilitation, assuring all necessary facilities for the inmates residing in these accommodations.
He emphasized that Jammu and Kashmir has always been a land of brotherhood and harmony, where humanity transcends religion and community.
“We are proud of our composite culture, where Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians have always lived together in peace,” he added.
Among Senior officers, Chief Engineer R&B, Labour Commissioner, ADDC Kulgam, SEs and XENs of various engineering wings and other officers of District Anantnag and Kulgam accompanied the Deputy CM during the tour.
