UDHAMPUR: In preparation for Diwali, a comprehensive meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai, here in Conference Hall, DC Office Complex Udhampur.
The meeting included in-depth discussion on the arrangements such as the installation of cracker stalls, security measures, traffic management, drinking water supply, power supply, sanitation, quality control and pricing checks of eatables as well as the deployment of fire tenders.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the government functionaries to make foolproof arrangements related to their respective departments well in advance. She emphasized the importance of launching a mass awareness program to inspire residents to celebrate a Green and eco-friendly Diwali by avoiding the use of crackers.
The DC further stressed the need to promote purchase of earthen lamps (diyas) made of cow dung by the Self Help Groups under the National Rural Livelihoods Mission and DUDA.
In a key decision, the meeting constituted a multi-department committee to conduct market inspection to monitor the rates and quality of products, particularly sweets, eatables and fruits during the festive season.
Subash Stadium was designated as the venue for the sale of firecrackers. “The traders shall be informed that the sale of firecrackers is only permitted at the designated venue, Subash Stadium and not at individual shops,” the DC directed.
The Jal Shakti and JPDCL were instructed to ensure adequate supply of drinking water and uninterrupted power supply during the festival days including at Subash Stadium where a large number of people are expected to gather for purchasing firecrackers.
The CEO Municipality was tasked with launching a sanitation drive across the town focusing on the venue for cracker stalls and its surroundings.
The Health Department was directed to arrange necessary first aid facilities at Subash Stadium to manage any emergencies.
The Fire & Emergency Department was instructed to have standby Fire Tenders available at the cracker sale venue to promptly address any incidents that may occur during the sale days.
The District and Traffic Police were urged to take measures for effective traffic regulation in the town during the festive days.
