“J&K to Witness Rain, Snow; Authorities Issue Weather Advisory”

Srinagar, Oct 6 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department has issued a detailed weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of heavy rain, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and snowfall in higher reaches over the next few days.

Director MET, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, informed news agency JKNS that October 6 is expected to be generally cloudy with intermittent spells of light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds. Light to moderate snowfall is likely over higher reaches. Isolated places in the Jammu Division may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while moderate to heavy rain is expected over some areas of the Kashmir Division.

On October 7, light to moderate rain with light snow at higher altitudes is expected till forenoon or afternoon, followed by improvement. October 8 may see brief spells of light rain at a few locations, while the period from October 9 to 16 is likely to remain generally dry.

Advisory: Farmers have been advised to suspend all agricultural activities during October 6-7. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in Jammu Division and moderate to heavy rain in parts of Kashmir Division, accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds. Residents of vulnerable areas are cautioned against potential landslides and shooting stones. Light to moderate snowfall is expected over higher reaches of Kashmir Division, Chenab Valley, and the Pir Panjal range, with moderate to heavy snow likely over select higher reaches of South Kashmir and Chenab Valley.

The MET Centre Srinagar has urged the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions. (JKNS)
