Anantnag, Oct 4 (JKNS): A mega awareness and distribution camp was organised by the Department of Social Welfare, Anantnag in collaboration with the District Information Center, Anantnag and Cultural Wing, DIPR Kashmir today at Achabal.
Secretary DLSA, Fozia Paul graced the event as Chief Guest while SDPO Achabal attended as Guest of Honour.
Principal GHSS Achabal, TSWOs, officials of SW & other departments, civil society members and a large number of senior citizens attended the camp.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary DLSA briefed about the legal services and rights available to the senior citizens and called for implementing holistic measures for the elderly and senior citizens so they age with respect and dignity. She advocated for a rights based approach to ensure social security and overall welfare of senior citizens and other vulnerable sections of society.
On the occasion, officers from Social Welfare highlighted the services and facilities provided by the department to senior citizens such as Old Age Pension, Hearing Aids and Old Age Homes.
During the program, colorful cultural items like skits and songs on rights of senior citizens and Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan were presented by the artists of Cultural Wing, DIPR Kashmir.
At the conclusion, carrom boards and other sports kits were distributed among the senior citizens for their recreation and psychological well being. (JKNS)
