Addressing the gathering, the religious leaders stressed that tackling social evils like drug abuse is a collective responsibility, with parents playing a crucial role. Students from local schools delivered lectures highlighting the menace of drugs and measures to combat it, while police officials, including SDPO and SHO, participated in the programme.

SSP Iftkhar Talib, speaking to reporters as per news agency JKNS said, despite daily raids and multiple arrests, narcotics remains a major challenge in the region.

“We are taking action against drug peddling every day, arresting seven to eight traffickers in recent weeks, yet the problem persists. Our strategy focuses on both enforcement and rehabilitation,” he said.

Talib further announced that the existing rehabilitation centre at Bomai will be made fully functional under the supervision of Sopore Police to provide comprehensive support for de-addiction and awareness initiatives. (JKNS)
