Srinagar, Sept 24 (JKNS): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said the strong voter turnout in the recent assembly elections is a clear message from the people of Jammu and Kashmir that they want their statehood back, stressing that the demand is rooted in democracy and not tied to any party’s political fortunes.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Omar as per the news agency JKNS, said the restoration of statehood was promised as part of a three-stage roadmap — delimitation, elections and then statehood.

“We have completed two stages, and the people have done their part by participating enthusiastically in the polls. Their voice must be respected in the final stage too,” he said.

The Chief Minister added that linking statehood to any political party’s victory or defeat would amount to disrespecting the people’s mandate.

“Statehood is not a favour. It is a constitutional right and a democratic demand. The people’s overwhelming participation shows they want their full rights restored,” he said.

Omar reiterated that his government is committed to solving public issues through direct feedback, boosting development, and ensuring that the aspirations expressed through the ballot are honoured. (JKNS)
