KATHUA: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the Central Government has been consistently working to upscale the health infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir. He informed that Government Medical College (GMC) Kathua has been equipped with facilities for chemotherapy and radiation in collaboration with Tata Cancer Institute, bringing major relief to cancer patients of the region.
Addressing a programme at Nagri, Kathua, held as part of the nationwide launch of Swasth Nari Sashakt Parivaar and the 8th Rashtriya Poshan Maah by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Madhya Pradesh today, Dr. Singh underlined that women’s health has been a core priority of the present dispensation. He said health camps are being organized across the country to provide diagnostics, screenings and awareness, with special focus on women.
The live transmission of the nationwide launch of the twin campaigns by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Dhar, Madhya Pradesh was also witnessed at CHC Parole, where a large gathering of citizens, public representatives and officials participated with great enthusiasm.
On the occasion, Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh also administered the Swachhta Pledge to all attendees, reaffirming the collective resolve towards cleanliness and service to society.
Later, Dr. Jitendra Singh visited Government Higher Secondary School, where he distributed ration and shawls among local women. School children were also provided with school bags, lunch boxes and water bottles, reflecting the campaign’s focus on holistic support for women and children.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to generate livelihood opportunities, Dr. Singh said Khadi is opening new avenues of employment and self-reliance. He appealed to the youth to embrace contemporary cloth-making, adopt the spirit of Vocal for Local and contribute to Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat.
The district-level launch event witnessed enthusiastic participation of citizens, public representatives and officials. Over 330 patients were registered through a mobile application and provided free consultations, diagnostic tests and medicines. Health screenings for school girls, nutrition demonstrations by ICDS, AYUSH services and food adulteration detection camps were also organized.
In schools and colleges across the district, students took part in cleanliness drives, debates, essay competitions and awareness rallies focused on the themes of Sewa, Swacchta and Poshan. Youth clubs and NSS units actively engaged in spreading the message of sanitation and healthy living in their campuses and adjoining localities.
Government offices also organized cleanliness drives in and around office premises, with officials and staff pledging to contribute towards the success of Sewa Parv by ensuring clean and citizen-friendly workplaces. Special plantation drives and awareness sessions on water conservation and hygiene were also held at several locations.
MLA Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan, DC Kathua Rajesh Sharma, Vice Chairman DDC Raghunadan Singh, ADC Kathua Vishavjeet Singh, Principal GMC Kathua Dr Surinder Attri, CMO Dr Vijay Raina, were also present.
