Srinagar, Sep 16 (JKNS): National Conference MP Aga Ruhullah on Tuesday said the government has broken its own promises by failing to ensure the movement of fruit trucks on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, warning that the silence of elected representatives will also not be forgotten by the people.

While speaking to media persons Ruhullah as per news agency JKNS said that the lifeline of Kashmir’s economy was being deliberately squeezed.

“Every year, during harvest season, fruit trucks are stopped until the produce rots. Today again, despite official claims that the highway is open, our trucks are stranded. This is nothing short of an assault on our growers,” he said.

MP Ruhullah underlined that horticulture, agriculture, and allied sectors form over 75 percent of J&K’s economy, while horticulture alone outweighs tourism sevenfold. “And yet, this sector is being suffocated. It is the government’s duty to safeguard livelihoods, not destroy them,” he said.

He further cautioned that representatives who remain mute at such a time will have to answer for their silence. “People trusted us with their votes. If we cannot speak up when their survival is at stake, our silence will not be forgiven,” he warned.

Ruhullah maintained that diversion of trucks through Mughal Road was only a temporary relief. “The real test of governance is to keep the national highway open for trade. Failure to do so is a failure of the state itself,” he said. (JKNS)
