Srinagar, Sept 8 (JKNS): Peoples Conference President and MLA Handwara, Sajad Lone, along with PDP youth leader and MLA Pulwama, Waheed Para, on Monday strongly condemned the slapping of the Public Safety Act (PSA) on MLA Mehraj Malik, terming it a blow to democracy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Lone as per news agency JKNS said the will of the people continues to remain powerless despite elections. “What is the purpose of holding elections if an elected representative is denied the right to express his sentiments? The will of the people of J&K continues to be subservient. This is a soulless democracy. It is a very sad day for an already endangered democracy,” he remarked.

Waheed Para, in a post on X, also denounced the move, calling PSA a draconian tool to silence political voices. “Such draconian laws are weaponised to crush dissent. Authoritarian measures like these are no way to resolve differences in a democracy,” he said.

Both leaders urged immediate revocation of the PSA against Malik, warning that such actions would only deepen the trust deficit and further erode faith in democratic institutions. (JKNS)
