Srinagar: Commissioner Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department (HUDD), Mandeep Kaur Thursday carried out an extensive tour of various flood affected areas of Zoonipora Pulwama and Tengan Budgam as well as periphery areas of district Srinagar to assess the prevailing flood situation.
The Commissioner Secretary was accompanied by Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Faz Lul Haseeb, along with other senior officers.
During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary reviewed water levels at critical locations and also interacted with the land owners whose land was inundated after the breach.
Reiterating the Government’s commitment, the Commissioner Secretary assured that all necessary support will be extended and that the situation will continue to be closely monitored to ensure public safety.
The Commissioner SMC, during the visit, briefed the Commissioner Secretary on the measures being undertaken by the Corporation, including deployment of men and machinery at vulnerable points to tackle waterlogging.
Pertinently, the Commissioner Secretary, late last night, visited the Flood Monitoring Centre at Ram Munshi Bagh to review preparedness in view of the rising water levels in river Jhelum and its tributaries.
During the visit, the Commissioner Secretary was briefed about the water level readings at Ram Munshi Bagh and other vulnerable locations along the Jhelum.
She highlighted that timely dissemination of information and swift response mechanism are vital to preventing loss of life and property.
