Srinagar, Sep 4 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V. K. Bidhuri, on Thursday said that all departments, including Police, Army, NDRF, SDRF and allied agencies, are working in close coordination to ensure rescue and relief measures in flood-hit areas of the Valley.

Speaking to the media, IGP Birdi as per news agency JKNS said, “Since the Jhelum swelled due to heavy rains, our forces along with other agencies have been actively assisting people wherever water entered residential zones. Rescue and relief efforts are being carried out jointly and in full coordination.”

Bidhuri said the J&K Police has set up helplines for public assistance. “In addition to our control rooms, the 112 helpline is fully functional. Any call received is promptly shared with the nearest rescue unit which reaches out immediately,” he added.

He urged citizens to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities. “Weather is improving and water levels are receding. People should show patience and strictly follow official advisories,” the IGP stressed.

On preparedness, Bidhuri noted that police teams are patrolling Jhelum embankments to check seepage or breaches. “If any such situation arises, it is reported to flood control officials and plugging operations are undertaken without delay,” he said, reiterating that all agencies remain united in safeguarding lives and property.
