Joint Review on Flood Preparedness Held at PCR Kashmir

Srinagar, Sep 3 (JKNS): A high-level joint review meeting on flood preparedness was held at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir on Wednesday to assess ground readiness amid the prevailing weather conditions and forecasts.

Details available with news agency JKNS, the meeting was attended by Special DGP (Coordination) PHQ J&K, Commandant General HG/CD & SDRF J&K, IGP Kashmir, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, IGP Traffic, Range DIsG, DIGs Armed and IRP, Deputy Commissioners of Kashmir Division, SSPs of all districts, besides senior officers from the Army, CAPFs and allied departments.

District officers briefed about the evolving situation in their respective areas, while Divisional Commissioner Kashmir explained measures taken to protect embankments, prepare evacuation and rescue plans, and ensure contingency arrangements along the Jhelum and other streams. Alternate communication strategies in case of disruption were also reviewed.

The meeting stressed the importance of inter-departmental synergy and a strong disaster mitigation plan to safeguard lives and property. It was decided to maintain high alert, pre-position men and machinery at vulnerable points, and ensure quick dissemination of information for timely evacuation wherever required.

The establishment of Joint Control Rooms with representatives from civil administration, Police, Army, CAPFs, Flood & Irrigation and other agencies was also discussed.

A comprehensive review of the response mechanism was carried out, with focus on proactive preparedness and stronger inter-agency coordination.

The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to remain vigilant and respond swiftly to any emerging flood situation across the Valley. (JKNS)
