In his televised opening statement, as per JKNS, PM Modi said, “The welfare of 2.8 billion people is linked to cooperation between India and China.” He noted that peace and stability had been restored along the border following last year’s disengagement process and underlined that direct flights between the two countries are being resumed.

The Prime Minister also mentioned the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and highlighted the consent between Special Representatives of both sides on matters relating to border management. India and China, he said, have an established framework through Special Representatives to address the boundary question.

“We are committed to take forward our cooperation based on mutual trust, respect and sensitivity,” the Prime Minister reiterated.

Modi also congratulated President Xi on China’s successful presidency of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

The Prime Minister arrived in China on Saturday for a two-day visit, his first in seven years, to participate in the SCO summit. (JKNS)
