DC Pulwama visits flood-prone areas, reviews preparedness measures

Pulwama : Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, Wednesday conducted an extensive tour of various flood-prone areas of the district amid incessant rains to assess water flow, review control measures & strengthen preparedness.
DC visited Karanbal Kakapora, Hatiwara, Samboora, and Bujbagh areas of Pampore Tehsil, and Goripora, Sail, and Chersoo areas of Awantipora along with other affected areas and took on-ground stock of the situation.
During the visit, DC issued a series of directions aimed at strengthening preparedness and safeguarding lives and property. He instructed the Flood Control authorities to maintain strict vigil over river embankments, vulnerable spots and irrigation channels. He further directed that field staff and SDRF teams remain stationed round-the-clock at identified critical locations to facilitate a timely response.
Police and Revenue officers were asked to coordinate closely with locals and ensure smooth evacuation wherever required. Besides, the Health department was directed to keep medical teams and ambulances on standby.
DC also stressed the need for stocking essential commodities in vulnerable areas so that public convenience is not hampered.
Dr. Qayoom further directed the officers to ensure seamless inter-departmental coordination, timely dissemination of information, and active engagement with local communities.
He also interacted with the residents at various locations, listened to their concerns, and urged them to remain alert, follow advisories, and promptly inform the authorities about any untoward situations.
During the visit, DC was accompanied by the Additional Deputy Commissioners of Pulwama and Awantipora, concerned Executive Engineers of Irrigation & Flood Control; concerned tehsildars; officers from Police, SDRF teams, and other line departments.
