Srinagar, Aug 26 (JKNS): The Meteorological Centre in Srinagar has issued a fresh warning, cautioning the public about the rising water levels in the Jhelum river and other water bodies across Jammu and Kashmir due to continuous rainfall while District Magistrate in Srinagar issued a weather advisory following a forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting an intense spell of rain, thundershowers, cloud bursts, flash floods, and landslides.

​According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar as per news agency JKNS, the next 24 hours are “crucial” for the entire region.

He stated, “There is a chance of water level rising in the lower and middle parts of the Jhelum till today evening due to continuous rainfall. After that, the water level in the river will start coming down.”

​He further added, “Due to rain since last week in the Jammu region, the water level has risen in rivers and nallas. People staying near low-lying areas must remain safe and alert.”

Meanwhile, District Magistrate in Srinagar has issued a weather advisory following a forecast from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting an intense spell of rain, thundershowers, cloud bursts, flash floods, and landslides from August 26 to September 1, 2025.

The advisory as per news agency JKNS urges the general public, especially those residing in Fakir Gujri, adjacent areas, and Khonmouh, to refrain from venturing in and around slopes and water bodies until the weather improves.

Tourists, local shikara operators, and sand miners at River Jhelum and other water bodies are also advised not to cross or venture into the water without first verifying the conditions.
