DC Shopian chairs monthly NCORD meeting

Youth asked to take more strenuous efforts on war on drugs

Shopian: The District Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) committee meeting was held Monday at Mini-Secretariat Shopian under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Shishir Gupta.
On the occasion, department wise action taken reports were reviewed by DC with stress on creating deterrence against the drug and substance abuse.
Departments including Revenue, Police, Drug Controller, Panchayats, Health, Social Welfare and others submitted monthly progress and line of activities against the ongoing fight against drugs.
It was apprised that strict enforcement is being enacted against the illicit crop cultivation, and regular poppy and wild Bhung destruction drives are being held across the district by revenue, excise, and other stakeholder departments.
On the occasion, DC issued directions to strengthen the fight against drug abuse by taking more strenuous efforts in IEC activities by conducting camps in urban areas and areas of concern and initiating the highest degree of penal action on drug peddlers and pharmacies violating nor
DC also emphasized the importance of keeping strict vigil on educational institutions across the district.
Action being taken by the police to tackle and deter the drug peddling was also assessed by the DC while also reviewing the functioning of the Addiction Treatment Facility.
ADC, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, ACR, ASP, ACP, Tehsildars, concerned district officers and other officials attended the meeting.
