Atif Rasool from Srinagar said, “I have been preparing for this exam for months, exam is slated for Aug 31, but the clash with another test is making all my efforts pointless.” He added, “I request CM Omar sahab to take up the issue with JKSSB and direct them to postpone the exams slated on the said date.”

Ayesha Bhat from Anantnag said, “The delay in rationalizing reservations has left us anxious. We don’t know how to manage our preparation now.” Another aspirant, Irfan Shah from Budgam, said, “Every new announcement seems to add to our despair. The government needs to understand the pressure on students, I request Advisor to CM for urgent intervention.”

In a post on X, PDP leader Iltija Mufti, as reported by JKNS, wrote: “Received hundreds of phone calls from distressed JE aspirants since yesterday. Our youth can’t dare to dream because the government itself is wilfully shattering their dreams with every successive scam and the inordinate delay to rationalise reservation. We demand relief for JE aspirants by delaying their exam to a date that doesn’t clash with another competitive exam. Instead of being apologetic and making amends, JKSSB is again throwing them into despair. Why are you criminalising education and merit?”

Aam Aadmi Party UT president Mehraj Malik also voiced concern, writing on X: “JE Civil Aspirants are requesting postponement of JKSSB exams planned for 31st Aug. JE Civil exam clashes with UPSC, and Electrical paper already faced a scam. Without inquiry & fair conditions, holding exams is injustice. @OmarAbdullah ji kindly take up this issue — JKSSB must be banned and removed.”

Meanwhile, some students had also approached the Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) Srinagar Bench seeking postponement of JE exams. However, as assessed by news agency JKNS, the Tribunal dismissed their plea on August 20, ruling that preparations for the exams were already complete and that rescheduling would cause administrative and financial difficulties, while more than 31,000 candidates were set to appear.

Aspirants hope the authorities will still consider their demand and reschedule the examination to ensure fair opportunities for all candidates. (JKNS)
