SHOPIAN: Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) Shopian, under the leadership of Principal Magistrate, Bazila Bashir, conducted a comprehensive inspection of Police Station Zainapora, today.
This inspection was carried out under Section 8 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which empowers the Board to conduct regular inspections of any facility where juveniles are likely to be detained, including police stations. The visit aimed to ensure strict compliance with juvenile justice protocols and verify that no children were unlawfully detained in adult facilities.
The inspection was conducted by a dedicated team of juvenile justice officials, including Shireen, member JJB Shopian; Rafie Ahmad Ganie, Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel (LADC), Shopian; Nighat Meharbaan, Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP); Sumaira Imtiyaz, Legal cum Probation Officer (LcPO).
During the inspection, comprehensive review of detention records and custody documentation, physical inspection of holding areas and interrogation facilities, verification of age determination protocols for apprehended individuals, assessment of compliance with juvenile-specific procedures was held.
Based on the inspection findings, Principal Magistrate issued a directive for the immediate designation of a Special Juvenile Police Officer (SJPO) at Police Station Zainapora.
Following a meticulous review of all detention records and physical verification of individuals in custody, the inspection team confirmed that no juveniles were currently lodged at Police Station Zainapora.
