Srinagar, Aug 22 (JKNS): Former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Friday lauded Bilquis Mir for introducing and nurturing water sports in Jammu and Kashmir but expressed disappointment that she continues to remain unrecognised despite her contributions.

In a post on X, Mufti as per news agency JKNS wrote, “Water sports was unheard of in J&K until Bilquis Mir dared to dream.”

“She didn’t just introduce the sport, she poured her heart and soul into nurturing it, fighting against odds to show the world that the waters of Kashmir held untapped potential and that its youth deserved a place on the global stage. Today, thanks to her unwavering dedication, water sports have found a home here,” Mehbooba wrote

Mehbooba added that despite fighting and winning a legal battle to clear her name, Bilquis Mir still awaits the recognition she deserves. “To see her at this event not as a proud representative of J&K but as a competition manager from the national federation is not just disappointing but also heartbreaking,” Mehbooba said. (JKNS)
