Srinagar, Aug 17 (JKNS): The Meteorological Department has issued a warning about a new spell of light to moderate rainfall, thundershowers, and the possibility of cloudbursts across Jammu and Kashmir. The inclement weather is expected to last until August 19.

According to Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar as per news agency JKNS, the Jammu division—including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua—is set to experience light to moderate rain and thunderstorms from August 17 to August 19.

He added that some parts of the region may face intense and heavy downpours. Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and certain areas of the Kashmir division are also likely to have moderate to intense showers, accompanied by brief strong gusts of wind.

Dr. Ahmad further stated that the weather is expected to be generally hot and humid from August 20 to August 22, with only brief thundershowers in a few locations. A fresh wet spell is then forecast from August 23 to August 25, with light to moderate rain and thunderstorms anticipated in many parts of the region, and a chance of heavy rain in some spots.

In a safety advisory, Dr. Ahmad urged the public to be cautious, especially from August 17 to 19, when intense or heavy rains could lead to cloudbursts, flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas. He advised people to stay away from water bodies and loose structures and urged travelers, transporters, tourists, and trekkers to plan their activities accordingly. (JKNS)
