The District Judiciary Srinagar, in collaboration with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with grandeur and patriotic fervor at the District Court Complex, Moominabad, Srinagar.

The celebration not only marked the nation’s historic journey of freedom but also the role of the judiciary and legal services institutions in safeguarding the constitutional values for which the freedom fighters had struggled.

As dawn broke and the first rays of sunlight painted the summer sky, the National Flag was hoisted by Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman, DLSA, Srinagar), Mr. Tasleem Arief. The tricolor soared high, symbolizing the indomitable spirit, unity, and integrity of the Republic of India.

The ceremony began with the guard of honour presented by the valiant members of the J&K Police, who stood in disciplined formation and saluted the flag. Mr. Tasleem Arief took the salute, paying tribute to the sacrifices of the countless brave souls whose courage and determination paved the way for the nation’s independence.

Following the flag hoisting, the event witnessed the active participation of the Ld. Judicial Officers of District Srinagar, Public Prosecutors posted at the District Court Complex Srinagar, Members of the Bar Association, Officers and Officials from the Roads & Buildings Department, Treasury Department, and J&K Bank, as well as court staff, ministerial staff, Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs), panel lawyers, and Para-Legal Volunteers (PLVs) associated with DLSA Srinagar. The large gathering reflected the shared pride and commitment of the legal fraternity and allied institutions towards the ideals of justice, equality, and national service.

In his address, Mr. Tasleem Arief highlighted the importance of independence not just as a historic event, but as a continuing responsibility to uphold the principles enshrined in the Constitution.

He emphasized that the judiciary, along with the legal services institutions, carries a profound obligation to protect the rights of citizens, ensure equal access to justice, and contribute to nation-building by strengthening the rule of law.

The event also served as a platform to reaffirm the judiciary’s pledge to extend legal aid to the marginalized and vulnerable sections of society, in the spirit of Article 39A of the Constitution.

The DLSA Srinagar reiterated its commitment to conduct awareness programmes, legal literacy camps, and outreach activities in the coming months as part of its annual action plan.

The Independence Day celebration concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all dignitaries, participants, and staff whose contributions ensured the success of the programme.

The occasion left an enduring impression, reminding everyone present that the freedoms enjoyed today are the result of immense sacrifices, and that the duty to preserve and strengthen them lies with every citizen.
