Kishtwar, Aug 14 (JKNS): The death toll from the devastating cloudburst in Kishtwar’s Chesoti area has climbed to 60, sources said on Thursday evening.
Official sources told news agency JKNS that 60 people are dead, with over 167 people rescued so far, while more than 100 remain missing.
“Massive rescue operations are underway with teams from the Army, NDRF, SDRF, police, and civil administration working round the clock,” sources said, adding that the search is being closely monitored at the highest level.
The sudden cloudburst triggered flash floods that swept away houses, livestock, and infrastructure in the remote mountain area. District authorities have set up relief camps and deployed medical teams to assist survivors.
Authorities have urged people to stay away from vulnerable water bodies and follow safety advisories amid continued rainfall in the higher reaches. (JKNS)
