Pakistani Spy Network Targets J&K Media, Civilians Through Fake Indian Identity

Srinagar, Aug 5 (JKNS): Security agencies have warned about a suspected Pakistani Intelligence Operative (PIO) using an Indian WhatsApp number to contact journalists and civilians in Jammu & Kashmir to extract sensitive information.

As per reports recieved by news agency JKNS, an Indian WhatsApp number 8670677188 is being used by the operative, posing as Dr Ritika Sharma, to call journalists and civilians to acquire information about the ongoing situation in Jammu & Kashmir, especially related to protests or strikes in view of 5th August and counter actions by the government.

Authorities have advised circulating a suitable alert among journalists, politicians, and influential civilians, cautioning them not to fall for such information-acquiring tactics of the inimical agency.

Earlier on May 13, following Operation Sindoor and the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, the Indian Army had issued a similar alert regarding PIO calls to journalists and civilians using WhatsApp number 7340921702. In that alert, it was stated that Pakistani operatives, posing as Indian defence officials, were attempting to gather information about the progress of Operation Sindoor.

“Please don’t fall for such attempts,” Army has said in a statement that time. (JKNS)
