UDAAN Pigeon Sports Tournament Concludes in Srinagar, Celebrating Kashmir’s Living Heritage

Srinagar, July 29: In the heart of the Kashmir Valley Downtown Srinagar, a centuries-old tradition continues to thrive, captivating enthusiasts and showcasing a unique bond between humans and birds: the Pigeon Sport. Far from a mere pastime, pigeon keeping and flying (locally known as “Kabootar Bazi”) remains a vibrant cultural practice deeply ingrained in the regions.

To maintain this cultural legacy, UDAAN Pigeon Sports Tournament was organized by F/161 Bn of this Unit under Command of Sh. Balihar Singh, Comdt who is committed to serve the citizens with dignity and provides ample opportunities to the youths of Kashmir Valley for enhancing their skills which was started on 12/07/25 and final match was held on 28/07/2025 at Danmar Sangam.

Teams from Noorbagh, Palpora, Goripora, Shunglipora, Danmar Sangam, Aiwakadal, Wanganpora participated after which best Pigeon of the tournament was awarded to Riyaz
Ahmad of Murad Pigeon (1st Position) and Mohd. Saleem Yatoo of Chinar Pigeon (2nd Position) and these structured events highlight the competitive spirit and dedication within the community.

A trophy alongwith Cash prize awarded to the Winners and Runners up teams of this highly addictive sports and a medal for participation to all participants was also provided.

The Pigeon Sport in Kashmir is more than just a sport; it is a living heritage, a testament to human-animal companionship.
