Srinaar, July 22 (JKNS): Congress leader ER Danish Reshi on Monday said that the party’s “Hamari Riyasat, Hamara Haq” campaign is receiving wide public support across Jammu and Kashmir, as people continue to demand the restoration of full statehood and protection of democratic rights.

Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, Reshi reiterated the party’s stance on statehood restoration, saying, “We are committed to the people’s constitutional rights and identity. Our peaceful efforts are meant to highlight these concerns in a democratic manner.”

Reshi said the campaign, which includes marches and outreach programmes, aims to reflect the sentiments of people across the region. He mentioned that over 250 Congress workers and leaders from Jammu and Kashmir recently participated in a peaceful protest in Delhi during the Monsoon Session of Parliament, urging the Centre to take up the issue.

“The support we’re getting from the ground reflects the collective desire of the people for constitutional guarantees, development, and dignity,” he said.

The party had earlier held protests in Srinagar (July 19) and Jammu (July 20), which Reshi said were peaceful and aimed at drawing attention to genuine public demands. Congress leaders had also attempted a “Jammu Chalo” march on July 20, during which some senior leaders including JKPCC President Tariq Hameed Karra were briefly detained.

Reshi said that such events only strengthen the resolve of the party to engage democratically. “We believe in peaceful, constitutional methods. Our aim is not confrontation, but constructive engagement,” he added.

Reshi urged all sections of society to join hands for the larger good of Jammu and Kashmir. “Statehood is not a partisan issue; it is a constitutional matter. We appeal to all parties and citizens to support the cause with dignity and peace,” he said.

The Congress party is also planning a peaceful protest near Parliament on July 22 to reiterate the statehood demand, Reshi informed.

The party says it will continue to raise the issue both in and outside the legislative forums, in line with the constitutional framework and public expectations. (JKNS)
