Weather Advisory Issued in Srinagar Amid Forecast of Intense Rain and Thunderstorms

Tourists, Locals Advised to Avoid River Banks and Water Bodies Until July 17

Srinagar: In light of an intense weather forecast issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Srinagar Station, the District Magistrate Srinagar on Monday issued an urgent weather advisory, urging residents and tourists to exercise caution from July 14 to July 17, 2025.

According to the advisory a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, intense spells of rain and thunderstorms, accompanied by gusty winds, are expected across parts of Kashmir Division, including Srinagar. The administration has especially advised people living near the left and right banks of the River Jhelum, its tributaries, and nallahs to refrain from venturing close to water bodies during this period.

The advisory further urges tourists, shikara operators, sand miners, and those using boats for river crossings to suspend travel on Dal Lake, River Jhelum, and other water bodies until conditions improve and the safety situation is verified.

Residents and the general public have been advised to stay in touch with the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) Srinagar, the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), and the Police Control Room Srinagar for updates and emergency support.

The advisory, signed by the Additional Deputy Commissioner/CEO, DDMA Srinagar, has been circulated to all key departments, including Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, SSP Srinagar, SDRF, Jal Shakti, PWD, and Fire & Emergency Services for immediate attention and necessary action.

Authorities have urged the public to prioritize safety, remain indoors as much as possible, and avoid flood-prone or landslide-prone areas until further notice. (JKNS)
