Srinagar, July 6 (JKNS): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, V K Birdi, on Sunday said that comprehensive security and traffic arrangements have been implemented across Srinagar and neighbouring districts to facilitate the smooth and peaceful observance of 10th Muharram (Ashura).

Speaking with the media persons during the Ashura procession in Srinagar, IGP Birdi said, “Detailed plans have been put in place by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with district administration Srinagar and the traffic department, to ensure that mourners do not face any inconvenience. At the same time, traffic movement for the general public is being regulated efficiently.”

He also said that the traffic management plan extends beyond Srinagar, keeping in view the large influx of mourners from other areas. “Neighbouring districts have also been instructed to maintain traffic discipline as many people travel to the city to participate in Ashura. These coordinated efforts are helping ensure seamless movement,” he added.

Ashura, the 10th day of Muharram, is observed in remembrance of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions who were martyred in the Battle of Karbala. Processions are being held across the Kashmir Valley, amid heavy deployment of security forces and logistical support to assist the mourners. (JKNS)
