The pilgrims, expressed joy and gratitude for the hospitality extended by the district administration and locals. Notably, the turnout of pilgrims for the first batch was modest. Official data reveals that while 5.1 lakh pilgrims undertook the Yatra in 2024, this year’s initial registration figures stand at 3.5 lakh, with only 85,000 registrations reconfirmed following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.

Despite the dip in numbers, the Jammu and Kashmir administration has left no stone unturned in ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage. A robust security setup has been put in place with the deployment of 580 companies of forces, including the Indian Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police, across the region.

To enhance vigilance, drone surveillance, CCTV monitoring, and multi-layered security checkpoints have been established all along the route, from Lakhanpur to Baltal and Pahalgam, to safeguard the journey of the Yatris.

Officials have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the peaceful and hassle-free conduct of the pilgrimage. (JKNS)
