DM Kishtwar Imposes Ban on Swimming, Bathing Near Water Bodies Amid Drowning Risk

Two-Month Prohibition Enforced Under BNSS to Prevent Water-Related Tragedies

Kishtwar, July 1 (JKNS): To prevent incidents of drowning and ensure public safety during the summer and monsoon season, the District Magistrate (DM) Kishtwar, Pankaj Kumar Sharma (JKAS), has imposed a complete ban on swimming, bathing, fishing, and recreational activities near rivers, streams, waterfalls, and other water bodies across the district.

In an order issued by district Magistrate, Kishtwar a copy of which lies with news agency JKNS reads, it has come to the notice that during the ongoing summer season, individuals especially youth and minors-tend to engage in swimming, bathing, fishing, and loitering near rivers, streams (nallahs), waterfalls, and other similar water bodies across District Kishtwar.

These water bodies often bring about dangerous conditions such as deep water, erratic currents, unpredictable water level surges, and unstable or slippery banks, all of which pose a threat to public safety and human life, Whereas, incidents of drowning and other water-related fatalities have been reported over the years, tragically resulting in the loss of lives due to such high-risk behavior, resulting in the unfortunate loss of precious lives and Whereas, the risks go up significantly during the monsoon and pre-monsoon periods, as water levels in local streams and nallahs can suddenly shoot up, thereby heightening the danger to life and public order, It further reads.

Whereas, in view of the above facts and in order to prevent any untoward incidents, and to safeguard public life and ensure orderliness in the District, it becomes imperative to impose reasonable restrictions on such activities, it reads.

Now, therefore, I, Pankaj Kumar Sharma, JKAS, District Magistrate, Kishtwar, in exercise of the powers vested in me under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, do hereby impose a complete ban on swimming, bathing, fishing and roaming or recreational activity near rivers, streams, waterfalls and other water bodies falling with the territorial jurisdiction of District Kishtwar with immediate effect, it reads.

This order is issued in the interest of public safety and in the interest preservation of human life and public tranquility and shall remain in force fom period of two months from the date of issuance. Any person found violati this order shall be liable to penal action under the relevant legal provisions, it reads.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Kishtwar, and concerned Su Divisional Magistrates, Tehsildars, SDPOs, Naib Tehsildars, SHOs, and I charge Police Posts shall ensure strict enforcement of this order in the respective areas of jurisdiction, reads the order. (JKNS)
