Srinagar, Jun 16 (JKNS): In a major enforcement operation, the Pahalgam Development Authority (PDA) on Monday launched a demolition drive in Movra area of Pahalgam, removing several illegal structures built without approvals, officials said.

Details available with news agency JKNS stated that the drive was conducted under the direct supervision of PDA Chief Executive Officer, Mir Nasrool Hilal Jeri, who personally monitored the operation aimed at curbing unplanned and unauthorized construction in the ecologically sensitive zone.

According to officials, multiple commercial establishments and residential structures that had come up in violation of land-use norms were dismantled using heavy machinery.

Speaking to JKNS, a PDA official said, “We are not against development, but it must be lawful and sustainable. The constructions were undertaken without any permission and in violation of town planning and environmental regulations.”

Locals were seen divided on the action. While some welcomed the move, calling it a much-needed step to preserve Pahalgam’s natural landscape, others expressed anguish over the demolition of their property.

The PDA has issued a fresh advisory to residents and investors, urging them to seek proper approval from competent authorities before undertaking any construction activity.

Officials also confirmed that regular monitoring and surprise inspections will continue in Pahalgam and its adjoining areas, and strict penalties will be imposed on those flouting the rules.

The crackdown is part of the administration’s broader initiative to protect the fragile ecology of the tourist hotspot and ensure orderly development. (JKNS)
