Jammu, June 16 (JKNS): Students of Government degree college affiliated with the University of Jammu staged protests on Monday, expressing strong resentment over the university’s latest notification regarding admissions to the 5th semester under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 framework.

The official notification issued by the University of Jammu dated June 13, 2025, outlined the admission schedule for the 5th semester of the four-year undergraduate programme. As per the document, admissions will be held from June 17 to July 7 without a late fee, while a late fee of ₹420 will be applicable from July 8 to July 17. The Vice-Chancellor is also authorised to grant further extension of 10 days upon payment of a hefty late fee of ₹3,520.

Students protesting at Kandi-Rajouri highway, including off-site colleges, said the administration must roll back the decision imposing as 95% students get droped by this notification only 5% can succeed, group of students told news agency JKNS.

Holding placards and raising slogans, students demanded an immediate rollback of the notification and called upon the Vice-Chancellor and Dean Academic Affairs to reconsider the order. They alleged that the university administration had issued the notification without consulting student representatives.

Student groups threatened to intensify their agitation if the university failed to rollback order.

Administration and police officials including principal GDC Kotranka visited the spot and assured students their demands will be looked into. (JKNS)
