New Delhi: Amid rising tensions between Iran and Israel, India has expressed deep concern over recent developments, including reports of attacks on nuclear facilities and urged both sides to refrain from any further escalation.

In an official statement issued here, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) called on both nations to refrain from any further escalation and urged the use of existing diplomatic channels to de-escalate the situation and address underlying issues.

“We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites,” the MEA said in a statement.

“India urges both sides to avoid any escalatory steps. Existing channels of dialogue and diplomacy should be utilised to work towards a de-escalation of the situation and resolving underlying issues. India enjoys close and friendly relations with both the countries and stands ready to extend all possible support,” the statement said.

Moreover, the MEA also said that Indian Missions in both countries are in touch with the Indian community. All Indian nationals residing in the region have been advised to remain vigilant, follow local security advisories, and prioritise their safety.

“Our Missions in both countries are in contact with the Indian community. All Indian nationals in the region are advised to exercise caution, stay safe and follow local security advisories.” The statement added.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Israel has advised all Indian nationals there to stay vigilant and adhere to the safety protocols as advised by the Israeli authorities and home front command (oref.org.il/eng).

It has also urged them to, “exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel within the country and stay close to safety shelters”.

Moreover, the Indian Embassy in Iran too has advised its nationals to remain vigilant, avoid all non-essential movements and strictly adhere to safety protocols issued by local authorities.

In strikes termed Operation Rising Lion, many Israeli fighter jets launched aerial assaults in Iran, pounding multiple high-value nuclear and military targets. Chief among them was Iran’s key uranium enrichment site at Natanz.

Iranian state television later confirmed the death of Maj Gen Hossein Salami, chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in what it called “a direct assassination by Zionist forces”.
